My Canadian Artful Adventures classes worked on hard on drawing and then painting a complicated skating/or hockey painting this weekend. We used our previous knowledge mixing tints/shades to apply it to this painting. This class will take another session to get completed so I’ve posted the almost-finished works.
The children all chose to draw skaters that weren’t hockey players even though the Canadian artist that we studied is called Bill Brownridge. http://heartofhockey.com/ Check out his website and lovely pointillist style paintings. Also, see if you can pick up one of his children’s books “Moccasin Goalie” , “The Boy Who Wouldn’t Fight” or “The Final Game” at your local library.
The students learned to apply some of his brushwork techniques into their own paintings. They also learned about looking at snow/ice in an Impressionist manner-meaning: using the paint in a way that you feel about it , not how you see it in real life. Then they used the Pointillist technique (George Seurat discovered) where small distinct dots of colour are applied in a pattern to form an image ie. the ice and background images of their paintings. Great work!
My 4,5 yrs Mini Masters talked about dreams and imagination in their Marc Chagall inspired flying self-portraits. They had a lot of fun drawing their favourite stuffed animals that they held in their hands while flying high in the clouds high above their houses/castles.
